aston martin db5

RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby’s, has sold James Bond’s gadget-packed 1964 Aston Martin DB5, driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball, for a cool £2.6 million ($4.1 million) in London. Jerry Lee, the seller of the car, had bought it directly from the Aston Martin Lagonda factory for $12,000 in 1969. Harry Yeaggy, the winning bidder from America, is only the second ex-factory owner of the Bond’s ride. He said…

This is a car that I’ve always wanted, after all it is the most famous car in the world. My plan is to display it in my private car museum in Ohio just as it is.

Rob Myers, Chairman and Founder, RM Auctions, said…

RM has just established the price of fame. We had a fabulous time during the promotion of the sale of 007’s DB5 and we’re really pleased to have been able to assist with finding it a great new home.

The 1964 Aston Martin DB5 features revolving license plates, an ejector seat and bulletproof shield. It can still manage 145mph and 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds.

Panama is known for its beachfront properties. But Panama president Ricardo Martinelli has taken beachfront living to another level with the announcement of an innovative new $300 million Ocean Reef Islands Project funded by Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA), contractor and builder Grupo Los Pueblos, the developer of Punta Pacific Islands. The project features two artificial islands with 200,000 square meters of space for a luxury home development off the coast of Panama City. Located off Punta Pacifica, the two islands, West Island and East Island, which are divided into residential lots of 800 and 1533.73 square meters, will be connected by two 160-meter bridges.

President Martinelli said the development will project confidence so that other investors will continue to carry out works that maintain Panama’s position as a nation with First World infrastructure. The islands will be surrounded by the Bay of Panama and will include gardens, parks and recreation areas.

renardgt
We have earlier told you about custom carbon fiber bikes to seduce the carbon fiber aficionados including The Sharker, carbon-fiber monocoque motorbike developed by the Gerg Group. The latest in the wonders of carbon fiber motorcycles is the $96,000 Carbon Fiber Renard GT. This luxury bike is conceptualized in order to revive the Renard brand, an old Estonian manufacturer destroyed by bombing in WWII by a group of Estonian entrepreneurs, designers and racing engineers. This carbon fiber prototype was recently unveiled at the Hanover Technology Fair and will go into production next year. The carbon fiber monocoque chassis weighs just 11 kg and incorporates the airbox and fuel tank. The bike is powered by a four-valve Moto Guzzi v-twin engine. The bike seems to have taken its inspiration from Confederate machines but, with the smooth texture of carbon fiber. Both wheels are carbon fiber, while the Grand Tourer’s lightweight aircraft aluminum components are CNC billet. The Renard’s 1200cc engine delivers around 130 horsepower. But in the end it’s all about setting you apart from the crowd while fulfilling your passion for a one-off bike to ride in style.
